Data Recovery FAQ

What is the difference between a Logical Failure and a Physical Failure?

A logical failure occurs when a virus or malware of some type infects your system so that it will no longer boot, this can also occur after an improper software update or an accidental format of your system drive. Pricing in this category is typically in the $200-$400 range.

A physical failure occurs when one of the mechanical or electronic components on the drive itself fail. There are a number of scenarios that can lead to these types of failures; often they are the result of irregular voltages from power surges, or from a physical impact of some type. Age of a drive can also play a factor; most are predicted to fail after about 5 years of use due to typical wear on the drive's parts. Pricing in this category is typically in the $700 - $1000 range.
